About

Liam Arbuckle is the Co-Founder and CTO of Signal Kinetics, a position he has held since the 14th of December during the most recent proper reshuffling of the company. He started the team working on the Companion Robot project (recently archived) before meeting

and
Edwin Montgomery
and taking part in the 2019/20 NASA Space Challenge. Since then, he's built SK up into a collective of programmers and hackers working to implement positive architecture to improve scientific discovery.

Roles

Role as CTO

Like many CTOs, Liam manages the technical vision of the "company" Signal Kinetics. He helps identify where we need/want to be and what we need to do from a technical perspective to get there. Unlike many CTOs. however, Liam takes an active role in the development of every product by SK, meaning that the overall management is split between him and the CIO, Arthur Passos.

Role as Chief Scientist

Liam has a unique and strong passion for accessible scientific discovery and is on a mission to make an open-source game engine to aid individuals around the world to provide services for scientific companies like JPL and the University of Geneva. As [co-]Chief Scientist, Liam constructs the Arcadia game engine to create a citizen-science approach. Taking advice from partners and other board members, Liam directs the citizen science projects the Arcadia project will be "compatible" with and works on integrating it with the rest of our services.

Role as CAIO

Liam also acts as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer of Signal Kinetics. In this role, he collaborates with other teams around the world to utilise AI-powered applications to create a more accessible planet. He also helps write the reinforcement-learning protocols for the Arcadia Game Engine.

Role as Arcadia lead

The Arcadia project was originally conceived in a computer science classroom in 2020, but it was the culmination of the previous projects Liam had worked on with SK that laid the foundations for Arcadia. It was only fitting, then, that Liam was selected as the Lead developer for the Arcadia project. Not content with merely creating a citizen science Panoptes client, Liam coordinates the development of Arcadia games, as well as taking an active role in the early stages of the life cycle of the project.

Role as Co-Chair

Liam heads the board of directors along with his counterpart, Rishabh Chakrabarty. Liam acts as the voice for the Arcadia team on the board, reporting to management information relating to the project. Liam also actively seeks collaboration with other companies and has helped broker several contracts with other developers as our Chairman, including with Deca Games, Hasbro, University of Mumbai and Edgeworks Entertainment.
